I'm famous!

well, not really...but i did get a REALLY nice shout-out from a great blog my aunt writes: That Old House.  If you're a visitor from there...thank you for peeking in!

new finds!

hi!  we've been busy bees and have quite the back log...so look for rapid updates this week!

here's some things freshly arrived in the booth:

 A lovely 19th century drop leaf table.  Magnificently wide boards were used for the leafs and it has its original brass wheels, in case you need to take the ol' gal for a spin...

 Another table! This one a walnut Victorian renaissance revival side table.  It has an oval marble top and also rolls around on little wheels.

The perfect size to take tea for two!

A mahogany mirror with carved curliques...

A peek into the shelves...in this jumble you'll find a couple of mid-century steak platters, a circa 30s casserole dish, a glass juicer, a vintage bronze mail box door, and a stack of collectible matchbooks loaded with advertising art...

...and a look down on the table top.  The pristine mid-century kitchen scale has a striking black and white dial and comes with the original box.  Lots of souvenir postcards, advertising cookbook pamphlets and an apple peeler.

ok, define "weekly"

sorry guys, for the delay...the hubby and I kept trading off the same darn cold.  (and then last week was so silly nice outside, he did yard work while i worked to get our coop ready for bantam cuties this spring)
BUT I promise to make it up THIS week!

here's some nice fresh finds in the booth right now:

 this cutie is a 19thc tintype in a case.  i love the pressed brass surround.

 it may be the archaeologist in me, but i was so intrigued when i disassembled the piece to clean the glass...under the tintype was two memento locks of hair...maybe from the mom and the baby to a loved aunt or sister they were moving away from?  Here you can also see the inside to the top of the case with the pressed pattern in the velvet.

I have some more tintypes, but i took pics of this one because  it was in a case.  The others are free wheeling...but still fascinating!

I also have a set of 6 mid-century junior classic hardback books in great condition (three in the pic)...I just LOVE the graphics on these, so bold and of the period!

 and also, here's a peek at a great glass flower bonsai sculpture.  it glows in the light.  and i can swear my great aunt had one...so classic...and when have you seen one lately? (there's two more on the way for spring!)

New Treasures Part II

Wow!  Someone loved the sewing chest as much as I did, because it's already gone! 

Don't worry if you missed it, here's more treasures now in the booth:

a wonderful solid mahogany dropleaf pedestal table...

 

...with a beautiful leaf.  

With the side drops extended and the leaf inserted you'll have plenty of room to host your dinner party!

 the six legs of the pedestals are elegantly tipped in brass lion feet.

 four wonderful early children's books about an adventurous goat named Billy...

In this one he travels to the Exposition.

 he has other great adventures including flying in hot-air-balloons, roller skating and stowing away behind Model Ts!

This mid-century solid maple chair has so much character, he almost needs to be named.

Harvey?  Hmmmm...

NOW, lets make good on my promise of ephemera!

 A large selection of early 20th century cookbook pamphlets...many published by well-known brands still in business today like Jello and Rumford...

 A great selection of crafting and house-keeping magazines from the 1920s.  these lovelys are so fun to browse, the back ads especially are a scream.  They also have great vintage full-page color ads for things such as Campbell's soup and Lifesaver mints!

This pile of fantastic fashion magazines are from slightly earlier, ranging from the turn-of-the-century to "Downton Abbey" era teens.  If you would like to know what the cutting edge fashions from Paris looked like in 1904 or 1912...come peruse these pages!  Also illustrates the intricate details of such frocks.  A gold mine for anyone interested in historic fashions...and as always, the back ads are completely compelling!

And finally (for now) a selection of smalls:
We have a nice collection of early 20thc brooch pins (HELLO HUSBANDS: you still have time before Valentine's...shake up the flower routine!)

Also a Deco-era gazelle typewriter ribbon tin and two old tins for paper fasteners.

Treasures Part I 2/13/12

The booth now has a cozy little rug...a hand knotted wool persian.  Lovely color palette.

AND here is a crafter's dream (ATTN: wouldn't this be a lovely gift for your crafty Valentine!)

 Lovely solid wood sewing cabinet...gorgeous color with little glass knobs.

 there are 4 drawers joined with dovetails

 

 The top flips up and reveals a wonderful storage nook for sewing notions.  The cream painted wooden tray easily lifts up if you need to take your crafty supplies to another room.  Bonus: all the pretty vintage sewing supplies I found in the chest come with it!

 Le sigh...so much more interesting than flowers or chocolates...

this week: two weeks worth of treasures

since we took a week off here at the blog to visit relatives....we now have two weeks of good finds to share!
